Governor of Borno state has disclosed Boko Haram's hideout

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state on Tuesday disclosed that Boko Haram terrorists may be hiding the abducted Chibok schoolgirls inside bunkers in Sambisa forest.

The Borno Governor said, ''We are suspecting that Chibok girls are living with the insurgents inside bunkers, I think the military must carry out their operations beyond the earth’s surface.

''They (Boko Haram) were also known to have dug tunnels to enable them move from house to house. So, having been left unchallenged for such a long time, such possibilities cannot be ruled out, which poses serious obstacles within the forest.

''The insurgents used their bases in the Sambisa Forest to launch deadly attacks and make quick retreat enabling them to capture and take over control of all the local government areas bordering Nigeria with Cameroon, Chad and Niger, thus effectively declaring what they assumed was their independent territory (caliphate)''.

''Unless and only if the Sambisa Forest is effectively recovered from the occupation of the terrorists can we think of defeating the Boko Haram and begin to comprehensively embark on a holistic approach for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the North East. In fact, at several stages, the Borno State government had intervened to reconstruct destroyed schools, health centres, homes, markets and so on, only for the insurgents to attack and destroy them again''.

US denied the killing of the second in command of the Islamic state (IS)

Abdul Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli

The US military has denied claims by Iraq’s government that a coalition air strike hit a mosque where the deputy commander of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group had been meeting with other fighters in the north of the country.

Iraq’s defense ministry said an air strike by the US-led coalition had killed Abu Alaa al-Afari and others who were in a meeting inside a mosque in the city of Tal Afar.

While the coalition confirmed it had conducted an air strike there in the last 24 hours, US officials said they had no information to corroborate claims Afari had been killed.

Meanwhile in Syria, ISIL has seized more territory in the central province of Homs amid intense clashes with government forces, Syrian activists say.
