House Constitution Review Committee Embarks on Retreat

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee  on the Review of the Constitution is set to embark on a retreat for its members in preparation for the next stages of the  process of amending the 1999 Constitution.

This is coming barely two weeks after the successful presentation of the collated results of the people’s public sessions.

A statement by the Chairman, Sub-Committee on Media, Hon. Eziuche Ubani,  said the retreat would afford members of the committee an opportunity to deliberate on draft bills on the aspects of the 1999 Constitution that Nigerians would want to see amended as was clearly indicated by the voting during the Peoples’ Public Sessions held in the 360 federal constituencies last November.

According to the statement, the retreat slated for next week, will usher the committee into the next and crucial stage of its work of amending the constitution.

The peoples’ public session was a novel and publicly acclaimed initiative that sought and received the views of Nigerians in the nooks and crannies of the country on issues and areas they would want to be amended in the 1999 Constitution.

Bank of England and Monetary Policy

One of the Bank of England's two core purposes is monetary stability. Monetary stability means stable prices - low inflation - and confidence in the currency. Stable prices are defined by the Government's inflation target, which the Bank seeks to meet through the decisions taken by the Monetary Policy Committee.

A principal objective of any central bank is to safeguard the value of the currency in terms of what it will purchase. Rising prices – inflation – reduces the value of money. Monetary policy is directed to achieving this objective and providing a framework for non-inflationary economic growth. As in most other developed countries, monetary policy usually operates in the UK through influencing the price at which money is lent – the interest rate. However, in March 2009 the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee announced that in addition to setting Bank Rate, it would start to inject money directly into the economy by purchasing assets - often known as quantitative easing. This means that the instrument of monetary policy shifts towards the quantity of money provided rather than the price at which the Bank lends or borrows money.

Low inflation is not an end in itself. It is however an important factor in helping to encourage long-term stability in the economy. Price stability is a precondition for achieving a wider economic goal of sustainable growth and employment. High inflation can be damaging to the functioning of the economy. Low inflation can help to foster sustainable long-term economic growth.

Will, 44, set the tone in a casual and comfortable ensemble of dark blue jeans, grey T-shirt and royal blue double-breasted jacket.
He capped the stylish yet cozy look with grey high-tops.

Jaden, 14, looked like he was ready to hit a skatepark.
The Find You Somewhere rapper wore a black-and-white T-shirt over a black hoodie that he had pulled up over a dark baseball cap.

The Karate Kid actor donned matching skinny black pants, dark grey low-cut sneakers and also sported big black headphones with a bright red cord.

Jaden, who was born in Malibu and knows how to surf, even brought along a skateboard.
Father and son have been traveling the world to promote director M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie, After Earth.
The movie is a survival story about a son who must rescue his father after they crash land on a futuristic Earth.

Jaden portrays Kitai Raige and Will portrays his on-screen father, Cypher Raige. They also had father-son roles in the 2006 feel-good homeless drama, The Pursuit of Happiness.
After Earth sees the pair strengthen their father-son bond as Kitai fights wild animals and an alien creature to get the help his father needs.
The movie is due out May 31 in the U.S. and June 21 in Japan.

Superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo cheated on his girlfriend with a Brazilian model who won the title 'Miss BumBum' in a catwalk competition, it was claimed today.
Andressa Urach said the Real Madrid striker, 28, slept with her in a hotel just 48 hours before a key Champions League semi final which his team lost 4-1 to German side Borussia Dortmund.
The 27-year-old said: 'I have always thought Cristiano is one of the most gorgeous men in the world, so I couldn't believe it when he got in touch with me.
  'He said he was very excited by my pictures online and one of the first things he asked me was if I really was a Miss Butt Brazil model.'
She told The Sun it happened a day after the £80million former Manchester United forward was pictured leaving a restaurant in Madrid with his girlfriend Irina Shayk.
Miss Shayt, 27, had her arms crossed and wore a downcast face.


Speaking about their tryst, she said: 'It was incredible, his body's perfect, like a Greek god. He went on for hours and would not stop talking about my butt.'
Miss Urach claimed Ronaldo told her he had dreamt about her behind and called her his 'little horse' before asking her to come to Madrid and meet up.
Miss Urach told how the pair linked up at the city's £12,500-a-night Villa Magna hotel after she took a taxi there and waited for him in the lobby.


He arrived in a grey Audi R3 and parked in an underground car park before taking a private lift to his room, from where he texted her his room number, The Sun reported.
Ronaldo is dating Russian beauty Miss Shayk, who is known as one of the world's top swimwear and lingerie models.
On Thursday she was in the UK attending the launch of the new Eleven Paris store in London.
The couple started dating three years ago - just weeks before Ronaldo announced he had become a father to a baby son with an unnamed American mother.
Although the Real Madrid player announced he had 'exclusive guardianship' of the tot Cristiano Jnr, his mother Dolores is helping to raise the child in Portugal.
Over the past few years, Irina seemed to have embraced the role as surrogate stepmother to the child and has been seen doting over the little boy on frequent occasions.
However, since they started dating in May 2010, the couple regularly go for weeks or sometimes months without seeing each other.
Irina is based in New York for her modelling work, but travels all over the world, while Ronaldo splits his time between Madrid and his native Portugal.

Champions's league- 'I didnt say Leo wasnt fit to face Bayern'- messi's father

Lionel Messi's father has denied telling anyone that his son was not fit for Barcelona's Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

Former agent Josep Maria Minguella has claimed that Jorge Messi told him that the Argentine was in no condition to start at the Allianz Arena, having made just one substitute appearance for the Blaugrana since sustaining a hamstring injury against Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the month.

However, he has now denied that he made any such admission before his son's anonymous display in the Catalans' devastating 4-0 defeat in Bavaria.

"I never said that Leo was not in condition to play, and there are people who were with me and they know it," the player's father told Ole.

"They asked me how he was and I said: 'In my opinion, he's fine'. The routine [medical] exams had gone well.

"I expected him to play, and I said exactly that."

Messi admitted afterwards that he was not "100 per cent comfortable" but insisted that he had been fit to feature.
